Waterfalls, Meghalaya, Rain and more!

One can never really finish visiting all the places in northeast India. Comprising of eight states- 7 sisters and a brother, this region is truly a 'paradise on earth'. My very short trip began from Guwahati, my hometown and the capital of Assam to it's neighbouring state Meghalaya. We, Guwahatians need no reason to visit Meghalaya. Be it be an escape from the heat in the city, a long weekend, a family trip or simply a 'mood lifter', "bol Shillong jau" (let's go to Shillong) is one of the most common phrase people use! Guwahati is connected to Meghalaya by NH6. We started our road trip in the morning to our first destination : Nijora Para Park. Though quite a tiny place, one cannot miss the soothing waterfall and the serene beauty of this park. Perfect for a small picnic and for capturing some beautiful pictures as memories to cherish.

As we drove off from there to our second destination, we enjoyed the blissful breeze that engulfed us through the roads. We reached "Tegheria Falls" shortly. The mesmerizing waterfall and tranquil surroundings were truly a treat to our eyes.

After covering two waterfalls, we were definitely hungry! What better than a delicious lunch at Nongpoh? Dhabas, local Khasi food, chinese - just ask for it and you shall not be dissapointed. With our stomachs full, we finally headed to Shillong Peak, our final destination. Blessed with beautiful weather, the journey ahead was indeed lovely.

We reached Shillong town shortly, after crossing Barapani, also popularly known as the Umiam lake. One could hardly miss the spell of this exotic lake, which is also famous for various types of water sports and beautiful resorts around. Our final destination - Shillong Peak is situated at an elevation of about 1965 m above sea level. The breath-taking scenes and the view of the city from the top is something you can never forget. The fog and the downpour added to the divinity of this place!

Meghalaya - 'the abode of clouds' truly proved to be one in my short one-day trip. With countless destinations to cover in this state, this one was only a tiny droplet in the vast sea. OTHER DETAILS: 1) DISTANCE (Guwahati to Shillong) : 100 kms (approx)

2) MEANS TO TRAVEL: Local taxis, bus service, private cars

3) BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime of the year 4) WEATHER: Pleasant all year round. (Summer - March to September, Winter: October to February)

5) MUST CARRY: A jacket/woolens and an umbrella.

That's all for now! If you also enjoyed reading about this short trip, as much as I enjoyed experiencing and writing about it, do visit this beautiful state and share your experiences with me! Till then, lots of love! :) Photography: Me & Anannya Boruah.
